Type of Education Visit
Education visits can be either:

Self guided tour Maximum number 150 $3 per student    1 hour
Guided education session Maximum Number 90 $5 per student    1 ½ hours

School and other education groups can book a visit.

 

To book your school or education organisation group in for a visit phone the Public Programs Officer or complete the  booking form  and fax it tothe Museum. 

 In order to assist us, please have the following information ready when you phone to book:

  • At least two dates of when you would like to visit in case your first preference day is booked out.
  • The time at which you expect to arrive for your visit.
  • The approximate number of students visiting - we appreciate that subject to permission and illness, numbers may vary. If more than one class is coming, the range of Years or Stages of the groups visiting.
  • What you want the students to focus on during their visit - this will help us to provide you with suitable education materials.
  • Whether you wish to self-guide the student visit or would like a planned Education session with a staff member.
  • How many adults will be attending to supervise the students whilst visiting - click here to see the requested number of supervising adults - if their is insufficient supervision of students we may not be able to accomodate your visit.
  • Contact details of the person organising the visit as well as the details of the school or education organisation including name, address, phone and fax numbers. 

Once you have made a booking, you will be sent or faxed a Confirmation of your Booking along with any education materials based on your discussion with our Public Programs Officer.

The Confirmation of your Booking will detail the costs involved with your visit.

When you arrive for your visit, please bring this Confirmation of your Booking and payment for your visit. We take cash and cheques.

Costs
A self-guided visit through the museum costs $3 per student.

A visit to the museum including an education session with a staff member costs $5 per student.

Education sessions
Depending on the level of the students and the topics on which they will focus during their visit, an Education Session can be planned by our Public Programs Officer. These are special guided tours, often with some hands-on activities.

Supervising adults
We request that there be, and therefore provide free admission for, one supervising adult for every:

5 pre-school and infant students
10 primary and junior seconday students
15 senior secondary and tertiary students

Students must cross over William St and walk up Howick Street to the Museum entry.

Other important information
Toilets there are toilets on the Museum site but not inside the main exhibition building. The boys and girls toilets are in separate locations. Please ensure adult supervision of school students attending the toilets.
Bag storage there is limited bag storage at the Museum. We request that students bring small bags only on their visit to the Museum.

Food and drink - there is no eating or drinking inside the Museum. There is a courtyard where food and drink may be consumed. At this stage there is no sale of food and drink at the Museum, but there are various shops closeby selling food and drink.

Museum shop we have a selection of items under $5 that students may wish to purchase as part of their visit. We request that no more than 10 students are in the shop at any one time.
